The Geisinger Health System is recognized nationally as a leading provider of progressive quality healthcare services. In its numerous hospital and ambulatory care clinic locations throughout Central, Eastern and Northeastern Pennsylvania, Geisinger has committed to LEED Certification for all new construction. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) criteria, as defined and administered by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) are implemented in an integrated design method to develop numerous strategies to reduce energy usage and carbon emissions associated with construction activity and building occupancy. This project is KLP’s second LEED building for the Geisinger Health System.
The 23,600 SF ambulatory care medical clinic structure was designed with a high-efficiency water source heat-pump system with cooling tower and a variable-air-volume distribution and a monitored control system providing energy savings, with a make-up air unit equipped with an energy recovery wheel. The building’s entry facade is orientated to the south, where skylights, an integrated photovoltaic laminate adhered to the metal roofing over the building’s larger public areas, are contemplated. Day lighting to the interior’s main corridor spine is providing by way of a continuous clerestory.
